THE RETURN TRIP – Episode 266

…worries mount as the silence and secrecy is enforced, clouding the prospects for a long-term relationship between species…

“I summon you today, here at Founder Shrine, to discuss the topic of the humans, who have grown so dear to us in recent times,” declares the wisest of all in the hall, Ekcello.

This will be no ordinary meeting, with no time constraints or tabooed subjects. It could last as long as two cycles or get bogged down on the issue of interracial relations; wherever it goes, however long it takes. —

What to do about the Earthlings?

— Five Eridanian cycles later, the High Counsel separates each to their different Towers to wait for the agreed-on plan to be implemented. The brunt of that plan rests squarely on Ekcello, in whose tower the Earth folks spend most of their time.

After a period of rest, to ease the effects of having to use the Olde Language, Ekcello proceeds to lay the foundation, the solution to this subtle crisis.

During his extended sabbatical, thought waves were flying in speculation. The average Eridanian knows that something is up, that the High Counsel does not convene for just any reason and for so long a period on top of that. Impatient curiosity keeps the buzz going, something they thought they had eradicated long ago. —

— Heading the list of those believing those friends from the Blue Planet are the reason behind the meeting at the Shrine, is Cerella. Her worries mount as the silence and secrecy is enforced, clouding the prospects for a long-term relationship between species.

Long before the whispers of strange communications with the supposedly empty antique spaceship from Mars even made cerebral headlines, her life as a princess seemed mundane; even when there was nothing to compare it to. And once the pristine isolation of Eridanus was exposed for the fairytale that it is, life on the Pink Planet has been turned inside out.

In the time before the arrival of their sons, Sampson and Celeste had made a lasting impression. Even if the process of purging the memory of their coming would begin tomorrow, it would take another millennium to erase something as impacting as they.

Is it too late to try?
