Alpha Omega M.D. – Episode #5

…The Governor has granted you special dispensation…

“You have a visitor, Doc Campbell.” The voice of guard Lightfoot pierces the night, routing the man from a spasmodic sleep. It feels like he has been daydreaming with his eyes closed.

“I ain’t been been killin’ no white girl!” yells the doctor incongruously, with conviction.

R Worth Moore-001

Standing before his 6×8 foot cell, is R. Worth Moore, the attorney who was unsuccessful in refuting the testimony of the dead girl’s mother. Her daughter, in a deathbed revelation, tells her mother that it was a Tallahassee doctor who performed an abortion on her. Whether or not the privileged evidence is true, the six white males on the jury believe so. Go ahead and disregard the known fact that her then “family” doctor was a Doctor Sapp, who practiced medicine 10 miles north, in Havana. He is white; any potential holes in the testimony?

“Wake up, Doc… do you want out of here or not?” Lightfoot has a heavy hand.

You can almost smell the fresh air of freedom from inside this hell-hole.

“A.O., I’ve come to take you to be with your Maggie!” Attorney Moore looks more disheveled than normal, because of the early morning hour, but not too far from his typically crumpled appearance; being a widower, he does not have his suits pressed as much as he should.

“Say what now Mr. Moore?” he mutters in a surrealistic daze.

The Governor has granted you special dispensation. I’m here to take you home for the funeral. Alpha is waiting for us in my car.”

“Mr. Moore went over the warden’s head, Doc,” says the guard. “Now get on your Sunday clothes before someone changes their mind.”dignity

Moore has brought the doctor’s best fall suit with him. Prison cannot take away this proud man’s dignity and the way a man dresses is the outward expression of that. Prisoner Campbell is suddenly transformed into his former self; the one who operates in the realm of the respectful and respected, as opposed to the regulars at Starke, molester, murderer and thief. How did he ever get lumped in with this motley crew?

The metamorphosis is completed when a renewly proud man strides confidently through the open cell door. An emotional Attorney Moore sniffles in concert with his tears, much as he had done after his closing statement on February 2nd, 1956.

“If they’ll give me my bag back, Worth, I‘ll give you somethin’ for that.” He thinks of others before self. If one’s life motto can be summed up in six words, write the previous sentence down in The Book of Life, alongside the quiet doctor’s name.

Alpha Omega M.D. – Episode #3

…”What is today’s date?” the doctor inquires. It is hard to keep track of time, when daylight comes to your world but an hour a day…

October 21 1958-001

“My Maggie died this morning, Frank,” simply put.

Lightfoot’s face turns a whiter shade of pale. Realization of another’s mortality will shine the light on your own, producing humility and ultimately humanity.

“I am truly sorry, Doc Campbell. I didn’t mean to disrespect you.” He means what he says.

“Maybe you could put in a good word for me, with Warden Hayes I mean. He denied me a pass to go to the wake.”

“This IS a maximum security prison,” Frank states, then recants, regaining his new humanity. “You’re right, Doc. The warden should grant you a pass and I’ll volunteer to take you to…………..where are you folks from?”

“Tallahassee.”

“How can I forget that, state capital and all?”

Tallahassee AO-001

“To be rightly correct, we hail from Quincy, in Gadsen County. But we have a family cemetery plot  at Oakland Cemetery in Frenchtown, not far from my hospital.” The mention of his clinic floods him with emotion, accent on the guilt. “My Maggie would still be alive if I had been there for her. She always needed me to guide and care for her. And where am I? I’d say I’ma wasting my retirement years, serving time for a death which I dint cause—-and now my Maggie’s gone and I have nothin’ to live for.”

“You have daughters, don’t ya? Three seems to me, ‘cause I remember all of them coming the day you came here. It was February 3rd… in’57, the same as my weddin’ anniversary.”

What is today’s date?” the doctor inquires. It is hard to keep track of time, when daylight comes to your world but an hour a day.

“Tuesday,” is the response.

“No, the date. Ain’t it October?”

“21st, yeah, October. It says so on this here new watch I got, shows the date and the day.”

“623 without her and now I don’t care about tomorrow or any other day. Take me home, Lord, I want to see my Maggie!”

“I’ll talk to Warden Hayes in the mornin’. Blow out that candle now. We’ll get you home, Doc.”

Getting Warden Hayes to change his mind will be no small task. Ten years ago, two former inmates, black and hopelessly unemployed, with too much time on their hands, kidnapped, raped, tortured and killed the warden’s 11 year old daughter. Revenge was their motive… as it is now his… an unreasonable rebuke of this 68 year old black Southern doctor in mourning.

Forever Mastadon ~ Episode 232

Dressed in clean, shining linen, with golden sashes around their chests, the three Angels of God spread their wings…

Suddenly and without notice the stadium turns pitch black. Just as Graham is about to raise his arms skyward, lifting the bread and wine that represents the body and blood of Jesus Christ, the fleeting daylight is not enough for anyone to see their hand in front of their face. The crusade crowd is at first silent, then building to a dull roar. Despite the frightening happenings, there is no panic.

This seemingly theatrical move was not in the script. Young Goldwyn likes theatrics, just do not mess with his lighting, “Do we still have our network link? His cameras are rolling, despite the apparent lack of power.

There are three iridescent figures standing (or floating), one each at the end of the right and left field upper grandstands and one behind home plate, at the same level about 50 feet in the air.

If there weren’t such confusion, someone other than Billy Graham may have identified the figures as real Heavenly Hosts, instead of ghostly spirits.

Dressed in clean, shining linen, with golden sashes around their chests, the three Angels of God spread the wings on their arms and the wings on their feet, outward nearly touching at the epicenter of the gathering. Together, in unison they shout in glorious voice: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts.”

Voice of God

At this point of Earth’s geography and specific moment in the Year of Our Lord 1951, the masses fall deaf and dumb, unable to hear or see.

*MICHAEL *, *RAPHAEL*, and *GABRIEL* are bathed in the white light of The Almighty. The strong voice of God bellows down in transforming greatness: “Rest easy my Children.”

And rest they do.

Reflection CC-fm-001

heck-yes

“This has been one helluva 5 months you guys,” Constance glances apologetically at the present preacher in deference to her use of words, “I mean heck, one heck a bumpy ride, but we all made it here in one piece. Eddie did take two for the team and my partner did her best to get kidnapped and top that off by having her neck broke, but all things considered…”

Helluva-001

“… Amen,” her assessment is punctuated by Reverend Graham, who raises both hands high, “Thank you, dear Lord of us all, for your loving protection.  Please use us to accomplish your good, on the Earth that you created. May this weary world see you for who you really are, our Father who loves his children.”

And that’s not all.

“And would you place your blessing,” he holds the Holy parchment high, “on this, your instructions for the banishment of demons.”

Amen and amen’s make their way around the semicircular gathering of Libbyites; from those who have always believed, to the ones who have recently seen the light; both equal is the sight of God.

“Thank you Billy. You have given us the gift of an ultimate goal and we’re 2 hours from achieving it. When Fanny and I came to Chicago, we expected to solve a crime and go back to Florida, now here we are, surrounded by old friends and new and hating to leave.

“But after seeing what we’ve seen and learning what we’ve learned, we are changed women. Fanny can tell you that a case like this would never happen in Tallahassee; messy divorces, petty extortion, that’s what we do down there. What did we get here in Chicago: kidnappings, murders, conspiracy, demoniacs?

“Having guys like Worth and Ace around doesn’t hurt either.” CCI’s heart and soul, bares both. “And what can I say about that Eddie D. and his Cousins. Rex is the only one of them we have met, but the rest have been with us, ever since we came to town. I can tell you this Eddie and Edie; you will be the cousins they will be talking about from now on. Thank you for your friendship.”

Forever Mastadon ~ Episode 222

…the Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Billy Graham Crusade Revival is heating up

Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Billy Graham Crusade Revival

It’s getting close to showtime..

So Samuel Goldwyn is treating the production of the Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Billy Graham Crusade Revival like it will be an Academy Award contending production. He has become quite familiar with the crusade concept by now, but this is going to be seen by millions of people around the world and his name is going to be listed as producer, director and managing editor (& popcorn vendor).

REVIVAL CAM-001

— “The three stationary cameras in the middle of the stadium… you guys pick a carriage and follow it for as many times they go around… and not two of you on the same one, got it? —

— “And I want all cameras panning the crowd during Communion. Zoom in on their faces, especially the ones who are crying or have their hands reaching for the sky. That is the image I’m looking to spotlight. —

— “Remember, for those of you who work with me in my movies, I cannot possibly control all the shots you are capturing. I want you to use your instincts, resisting the temptation to focus in on the crazies. Remember the Chicago Stadium meeting, the kook with the “You Are Going to Hell!” t-shirt or the chick who rushed the stage wanting to plant a smooch on BG?” –

Dream big

“Did I hear my name?” asks the man who leads thousands of seeking souls to salvation. “I was eavesdropping on your production meeting and all I can add is that I cannot emphasize enough the importance of the word Revival. From here on out the Crusades are going to be billed as Revival Meetings. Whether it is an intimate gathering or a thunderous throng, I want the spirit of Revival to spread through this nation like wildfire!”

Billy Graham thinks big… h-u-g-e, big.

“And we are going to put faces to names and stories to faces; real people pulling on the same end of the rope, all for the sake of a fundamental truth.” BG tears up about how at this moment in time. Literally millions of united souls helped produce a moving and monumental 5 months. “We are witnessing a seminal moment in the history of modern man, Sam my boy!”

Samuel Goldwyn Jr. is thinking big-screen big.
