…the Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Billy Graham Crusade Revival is heating up

It’s getting close to showtime…

So Samuel Goldwyn is treating the production of the Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Billy Graham Crusade Revival like it will be an Academy Award contending production. He has become quite familiar with the crusade concept by now, but this is going to be seen by millions of people around the world and his name is going to be listed as producer, director and managing editor (& popcorn vendor).

— “The three stationary cameras in the middle of the stadium… you guys pick a carriage and follow it for as many times they go around… and not two of you on the same one, got it? —REVIVAL CAM-001

— “And I want all cameras panning the crowd during Communion. Zoom in on their faces, especially the ones who are crying or have their hands reaching for the sky. That is the image I’m looking to spotlight. —

— “Remember, for those of you who work with me in my movies, I cannot possibly control all the shots you are capturing. I want you to use your instincts, resisting the temptation to focus in on the crazies. Remember the Chicago Stadium meeting, the kook with the “You Are Going to Hell!” t-shirt or the chick who rushed the stage wanting to plant a smooch on BG?” –

“Did I hear my name?” asks the man who leads thousands of seeking souls to salvation. “I was eavesdropping on your production meeting and all I can add is that I cannot emphasize enough the importance of the word Revival. From here on out the Crusades are going to be billed as Revival Meetings. Whether it is an intimate gathering or a thunderous throng, I want the spirit of Revival to spread through this nation like wildfire!”

Billy Graham thinks big… h-u-g-e, big.

“And we are going to put faces to names and stories to faces; real people pulling on the same end of the rope, all for the sake of a fundamental truth.” BG tears up about how at this moment in time. Literally millions of united souls helped produce a moving and monumental 5 months. “We are witnessing a seminal moment in the history of modern man, Sam my boy!”

Samuel Goldwyn Jr. is thinking big-screen big.

Sam Goldwyn has assembled a film for the occasion, each of the coach riders retelling the highlights of their experience for posterity; to be projected onto a 40’h x 60’w screen bought from a drive-in theater for the price of hauling it away. It will be shown after BG’s opening sermon and before Communion.

Heaven only knows what will happen in~between.

Crusade-001

When Billy Graham envisioned his Midwest Crusade, he thought about asking many titans of faith to join him, but the more time he spent around the so-called Libbyites, he realized that he had all the evangelistic fuel he needed with them alone.

The Bible is filled with “ites”, the easiest being the Israelites. Name six more andLibbyites-001 win a prize:

  1. Moabites
  2. Jacobites
  3. Amalekites
  4. Hittites
  5. Levites
  6. Reubenites

Ding-ding-ding, everyone is a winner. Some “-ites” are more famous than others and if you can name the hundred or more “-ite” clans, God bless you.

Libbyites are found only in the collection of words named CONSTANCE CARAWAY ~ Forever Mastadon~. To add your name to the current roster of the lucky twelve dedicated members, there will be a form to fill out in APPENDIX B section at THE END of Forever Mastadon. …Ace Bannion and Agent Daniels leave Midway Airport with expectations that a climax is near…

“We have the unenviable task of guessing how (or if) Penty is going to attack. I know we are hoping that he shows his fangs, but what if he doesn’t?” Agent Daniels/Jesse James is feeling the stress of having to predict the unpredictable, expected to possess an intuitional advantage over his cohorts. “It seems I am slated to go along for the ride, Eddie’s carriages I hear.” There is a hint of trepidation in his voice. “But while we are circling the warning-track or up on stage telling our stories, we will be losing control of the venue.”

“I’m with you JJ, but the girls tell us that all we have to do is trust, especially Sister Mary Joseph. I think she would walk off a cliff and believe she would be O.K.” In between checking hydraulics and testing circuits on the repaired/restored Blue Ridge Angel, Ace equates the Tolentine nun’s faith to flying. “When we took off from KC, I had confidence that we would land safely in Chicago. I was sort a wrong this time. I saw my life flash before my eyes, and it may sound corny, but I relived every landing I have ever made in those final minutes.”

“Well I am trained to trust my instincts and I am positive that Penty will show himself, he cannot possibly pass this up.”

That’s where that weird paper we brought back from Wisconsin comes in.” Ace has seen things that defy logic.

“Yes, it is an instructional document, the very methods that Jesus’ disciples used to rid possessed folks of their demons. Jesus didn’t need a manual to do His thing, but we sure do!”

“It sounds like Billy or the good sister is rubbing off on you, Daniels?”

“Hey, if I have a choice, I’m riding in her wagon. I saw lightning take out a bad guy, with a finger on the trigger, twenty feet from her… and twenty-two feet from me. Am I a believer? You betcha!” Will he get his wish?

Bannion and Daniels both leave Midway Airport with expectations. They represent an overall sentiment that a climax is near.

As it was in the decades after the crucifixion of Jesus, so believe the most fervent presenters of the Good News; the return to Earth of the Messiah is around the corner… albeit God’s corner and that’s one big corner, h-u-g-e – big.

…The growing popularity of the Billy Graham Revival Crusades is overtaking any other programming…

Whatever happens on Saturday April 28, the entire nation and most of the English speaking world will see “it” live on their televisions, whether in black & white or the privileged choice, color. Once again the National Broadcasting Company will be carrying what Samuel Goldwyn and his cameras are filming.

The growing popularity of the Billy Graham Revival Crusades is overtaking any other programming they can put on the air. And the advertisers love it. They know they can rely on the reliable loyalty of those Christian viewers to purchase their products (unless they’re selling booze or tobacco).

Realizing that it would go virtually unnoticed, Arthur Godfrey and CBS aren’t even going to air his show locally that day.

re-viv-al: n

renewed religious interest: a new interest in religion, or the awakening of such interest.

recovery: the recovering of life, consciousness, or full strength.

The above definition describes what is going on, amidst the growing buzz about the Billy Graham 1951 Crusade. After two World Wars, an escapist decade called the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and the Cold War the entire planet is in need of something. Coming closer to your Heavenly Father, in the midst of or following, years of feeling lost and alone, is a positive 1st step.

fence2The 3 Comiskey Park meetings are going to be like a courtroom trial and that is the feel the team of Graham and Goldwyn are going for. The whole shebang may be ill-advised, half-cocked or both, but there’s no stopping it now. It may not be the conventional path to salvation, but one thing for sure, the fence riders are looking to proof, proof that God exists and sure as shooting they are going to get it.

…Stealing a plane is a Federal offense, even if it’s in the name of God…

Blue Ridge Angel-001

In his spare time, since and leading up to the star status assigned him by the other 34 living, breathing and exceedingly thankful passengers who were aboard The Blue Ridge Angel when she crashed (no bigger fan than Rev Billy himself), Ace Bannion goes over the repairs made to that fated plane with the ever mercurial, yet reliable Agent Daniels.

“She looks as good as new Bannion, but it pays to land on 3 good wheels.” Know-it-all-smart-ass. “How much did you pay for this beauty, it looks like a C-47?”

“Not a bad guess for a dirt-hugger like you, but it’s actually a BT-67 refurb actually and literally stole it from the previous owners.”

“Stealing a plane is a Federal offense, even if it’s in the name of God.”

“65 grand of Hurst Publishing money, bought and paid for, I’ll have you know. Too bad I had to scrape up the belly.”

55th St.-001“Hey, at least no one was killed, right?”

“All I know is, I never want to read the numbers on a house from an airplane cockpit again!”

“You won’t be bothered much longer, I promise you,” Daniels knows his nemesis well and knows of what he speaks. “My good friend Pentateuch is in for a rude surprise at that baseball stadium. He will be expecting to have his usual unabated fun, but Graham is preparing a recipe that will set him back for a good, long while.”

Pentateuch-001“Are you saying that we can kill the Devil?” Ace is hoping for the best.

“No. You found that out in Italy, right? I love that Constance woman, but I could have told her she was wasting her time trying to blow him up.”

“She loves you too, but hindsight does not replace her revengeful satisfaction… or that fantastic Italian getaway I might add,” fond memories. “Do you know how long I’ve been trying to pry that woman away?”

“Away from what, may I ask?”

“From whom, Daniels, haven’t you been paying attention? All I need to tell you is: Worth Moore is the finest lawyer north of the South Pole!”

“Wow that would make him pretty good.”

…Samuel Goldwyn needs to which of the Graham All-Stars will be taking part, so to skillfully place his cameras…

Billy Graham All-Stars-001

“Pray for good weather Samuel. There won’t a tent or roof to cover us from the elements.” Billy Graham recommends prayer in all things life, but much is at stake at the April 28 finale. “I’m not sure that the Holy Father cares whether it rains, snows, is hot or cold. I remember one time in Ventura, California… the Santa Ana’s were howling that day and 5,000 people were wearing canvas hats that morning.”

jesus treeThe accidental acquisition of the Holy Scroll, which was conveniently (if not beautifully) placed in the path of CCPI, has been enclosed in a huge shatterproof glass display case, just like the Constitution of the United States. Crusaders can come within inches of a document produced by an undoubtedly verified heavenly author.

It’s no statue of the Virgin Mary, crying blood for all the wanting witnesses. Nor is it a eucalyptus tree with a dark bark patch resembling the figure of Jesus on the Cross.

But what it is is backed by team of antiquities (not antiquated) experts, including a librarian from a quaint town in Wisconsin. Otherwise easily persuaded people can only guess what Mary’s son looked like, or whether that is real blood or not.

“Is Willard going to be at this one?” Sam needs to know which of the Graham All-Stars will be taking part, so to skillfully place his cameras for the paramount cinematic effect. How about “all of them” MisterMovieMan asks.

“Now that the veil of secrecy has been tossed to the side, I need to keep my entire Chicago friends close and the enemy of all mankind even closer; I’m expecting a whiz-bang doozy of a day!”

The excitement is building.

“We are going to tell the Willard Libby story, end to end—top to bottom.”Libby thoughts-001

“You couldn’t write a movie script this good!”

“Constance and Martin are putting together the glorious and amazing timeline, quite a story indeed.”

…Billy Graham and Samuel Goldwyn are talking about life and  other matters…

Billy Graham and Samuel Goldwyn are talking about life, its meaning and other matters on the bus trip back to Chicago. Sam is of the Jewish persuasion, albeit the non-practicing flavor, but like many of the crusade attendees, he has repeatedly heard the messages and cannot help having serious questions about the potential role of faith in his life. But it’s not only Judaism that haunts him. He can still hear his Grandfather speak of their centuries struggle against the Muslim world, right up to 1947 and when Israel was granted the promised homeland.

Much of the root confusion arises from the birthright of Abraham’s two sons, by different mothers; Abraham being the patriarch of the line of David.

“Why do Muslims claim that it was Hagar’s son, Ishmael, whom God spared from being sacrificed?” Young Goldwyn knows just enough scripture to be dangerous.

“… because it allows them to claim our God as their own. You see, sometime after Christ died on the cross, they changed the story in their holy book, the Koran, to fit their needs. But these same errant editors insist that their prophet Mohammed is like a god, which is pure hogwash. Mohammed has been allowed to write his own sacred manuscript to be passed off as divine. It is fiction by the strictest measure.

“In the real historical account, as transcribed by the apostles, our great God provided a 100 year old man with a son, by his wife of 90, a miracle that triumphed over the despair of barrenness. God ordered, ‘And you will call him Isaac’. So when He instructed Abraham to sacrifice his precious son on an altar, he was obedient. That obedience was proof of the man’s faithfulness and Isaac was spared; not Ishmael who has Egyptian blood and born of a concubine.”

“And I used to think that the Bible was just another book.”

Goldwyn sees the light.
