Constance Caraway P.I. ~ Episode 227

…The P.I. talks to her people before the Comiskey Park Greater Chicago Crusade Revival Grand Finale…

Reflection CC-fm-001

She saunters over to the shorter Martin Kamen to plant a kiss on top of his head. Of all the people and situations that Fanny and she have encountered, it is Willard Libby’s closest colleague who has been there every step of the way. Whatever it took, whenever it was needed, Martin stepped out of his comfort zone to make things happen. He opened his home to two strange ladies and allowed them to take the lead.

“Without Martin, I am afraid we are not standing here ready to ride around a baseball field filled with people, in C-14 Coaches. He discovered carbon-14, which prior to very recently, we thought were 14 pieces of burnt toast. If he doesn’t get someone else involved, Willard may still be squirreled away in a mental hospital, right Dr. Steinberg?”

Looking at Willard’s Aunt, she comments, “I understand that you and our man of many names, let’s see: Jesse James/Agent Daniels/Bernard Spencer/The Rogue and whatever else Penty and Forever Mastadon calls him, have bonded over that lightning strike; Mother Teresa meets Elliot Ness meets Mother Nature…

“You’re a man who travels in more circles than a carnival pony, Jesse. If you ever want to write a book, I have a friend named Gwenny who can help you with that; such are the quality stories you can tell. But even if you keep your secrets close to your vest, you have renewed my faith in government employee and again, without your dances with the devil, we’re not successful.”

…”When Fanny and I came to Chicago, we expected to solve a crime and go back to Florida, now here we are, surrounded by old friends and new and hating to leave”

Reflection CC-fm-001

“This has been one helluva 5 months you guys,” Constance glances apologetically at the present preacher in deference to Helluva-001her use of words, “I mean heck, one heck a bumpy ride, but we all made it here in one piece. Eddie did take two for the team and my partner did her best to get kidnapped and top that off by having her neck broke, but all things considered…”

“… Amen,” her assessment is punctuated by Reverend Graham, who raises both hands high, “Thank you, dear Lord of us all, for your loving protection.  Please use us to accomplish your good, on the Earth that you created. May this weary world see you for who you really are, our Father who loves his children.”

“And would you place your blessing,” he holds the Holy parchment high, “on this, your instructions for the banishment of demons.”

Amen and amen’s make their way around the semicircular gathering of Libbyites; from those who have always believed, to the ones who have recently seen the light; both equal is the sight of God.

“Thank you Billy. You have given us the gift of an ultimate goal and we’re 2 hours from achieving it. When Fanny and I came to Chicago, we expected to solve a crime and go back to Florida, now here we are, surrounded by old friends and new and hating to leave.

“But after seeing what we’ve seen and learning what we’ve learned, we are changed women. Fanny can tell you that a case like this would never happen in Tallahassee; messy divorces, petty extortion, that’s what we do down there. What did we get here in Chicago: kidnappings, murders, conspiracy, demoniacs?

“Having guys like Worth and Ace around doesn’t hurt either.” CCPI’s heart and soul, bares both. “And what can I say about that Eddie D. and his Cousins. Rex is the only one of them we have met, but the rest have been with us, ever since we came to town. I can tell you this Eddie and Edie; you will be the cousins they will be talking about from now on. Thank you for your friendship.”

Constance Caraway P.I. ~ Episode 225

… From the moment that she answered her Florida front door on the day before Christmas 1950, the road to Chicago was being laid out for her… for such a time as this…

Libby thoughts-001

~~~God has a habit of using some of the least likely people to rise up and seize the moment~~~
Agent Daniels-001**When Agent Daniels, the G-man with another plan, makes himself known, Constance finds a way to weave him into her ragtag trick bag. Instead of eschewing the government insider, she finds him to actually be an insider of another variety, the kind that has placed him precariously close to the underworld, the world that contains the very source of what has become a grand conspiracy to further the Great Deception.
AcePic3**With Fanny back at home, helping a fellow Tallahassean in trouble, Ace Bannion flies onto the scene and without throwing Constance into an ineffective tizzy, he adds invaluable mobility with his private plane and global panache with a Mediterranean interlude, topped off by a Wisconsin treasure hunt. He has taken her emotional past and put it in its place. A beautiful woman has emerged, no longer weighed down by dead-end personal concerns.
**Billy Graham. What’s in a name? He is an evangelist with a twist; a Bible-taught warrior, a logistics magician and a miracle maker, all wrapped into an imposing Southern gentleman. When Constance learns of Graham’s participation in the Tolentine Summit, it is he that she uses to accentuate the connection between radiocarbon-14, Willard Libby and the conspiracy to squelch the effort to enlighten the mislead world. Only a man like him could bring this mini saga to a Itessuitable conclusion.
**Twelve Libbyites (and growing) are gathered together, ready to step into the spotlight and tell their stories, for such a time like this.
Constance Caraway P.I. ~ Episode 212
…Attorney Worth has located an abandoned stable on north Dearborn, the actual coach house for a Louis Sullivan designed home…
Coachhouse
North Dearborn
Also not very common in the middle of the Twentieth Century is specialized upscale livery by horse drawn carriage. Partially inspired by wife Edie’s insistence that he gives up his Checker Cab days, coupled with the inheritance left behind by his wife’s rich aunt from Jersey, Eddie Dombroski is teaming up with his cousin Rex from Western Springs on the concept of carriage rides in what is considered to be the downtown Chicago’s Loop.
There is a gaping hole in romantic conveyance in the city, in fact there are none at all. The only problem is, that despite his extensive knowledge of the byways and side streets, he has zero experience with Cleveland Bays, those 16-hand mahogany colored beauties that will tow the high-wheeled four person enclosed cabs.
Eddie is coachman to Rex’s footman, though one cannot exist without the other. Edie has broken away from her domestic chains to become the hawker for the fledgling undertaking and the three of them work together.
And seeing as Fanny has parked he fanny at that shyster Moore’s South Loop Hotel, they will be the perfect guinea pigs for this groundbreaking rebirth of a long lost mode of transportation. But he may be switching from the South Side for the North Side. Attorney Worth has located an abandoned stable on north Dearborn, just south of Lincoln Park, the actual coach house for a Louis Sullivan designed home. After clearing away the legal hindrance to keeping live farm animals, the Floridian decides he likes the home itself and buys it.
“What a wonderful place to start a family,” directing his comment to “we know who”, a “who” that is creeping up on the upper reaches of motherhood – tick-tock, tick-tock.
That puts Fanny to thinking. If he is thinking about children, he must have sexual intimacy on his mind. If he has carnal relations on his mind, then he knows that marriage must come first; which is the very same hurdle that Ace and Constance have facing them.
“Let’s get Rex and his horses into the stable first. The 28th is coming up fast and Constance wants us to meet up with Agent Daniels as soon as possible,” Fanny declares.
“After the stadium crusade is over, you’ll have to help me furnish the place.”
“I used to have simple tastes!”
To be foretold is to be forewarned. (or something like that)
Constance Caraway Private Investigation is calling the number that Agent Daniels left with her – just in case…
The one wildcard in this latest scheme to chase Satan back into his fiery hole continues to be his former deputy-devil-turned-Libbyite Cephus/ Agent Daniels. If Constance Caraway is a prickly thorn in the devil’s foot, this uncovered CIA mole would be a spear, prowling, lurking, and seeking to pierce without warning.
Pentateuch absolutely despises the very type of individual that he is himself: silent, devious, ruthless.
Cephus may be watching and Pentateuch would not know it.
Penty hates being unawares. —
Anolis grahami
— Even government operatives get vacation time and Agent Daniels has slipped off to Jamaica for some well-deserved rest, after he had confirmed that the inspectors of the Blue Ridge Angel were nothing more than phony-baloney nondescript, albeit willing government saboteurs.
“Jesse James,” the telephone speaks in his open-air room at the Silver Seas Resort.
“Wow, a real name to go with a real voice!” The founder and collective soul of Constance Caraway Investigation is calling the number that he left with her – just in case.
“Get out of here you pesky critter!”
“Excuse me,” she is surprised by the apparent rebuke.
“Sorry Constance, I wasn’t talking at you. I have a couple of House Geckos who insist on darting around whenever I’m about to use the shower; they seem to prefer domestic water over island water. Too bad they have no natural predators to worry about. I may need to toss them into the Caribbean.” He means business, but eschews real killing. “What has our two-legged lizard been up to?”
“Well, that’s just it, we have come upon some new information and in addition, Graham is returning to Chicago on the 28th for a baseball stadium meeting. I’m thinking that Penty has caught wind of this… you do remember what happened last month?”
“What information are we talking about?”
“It seems that Ace & I have acquired detailed, ancient instructions on how to put this sneaky bastard in his place. I happen to think that you may be the man who can carry out those instructions.”
No audible response – he had been enjoying himself for the first time in (xx) years.
“And there will be a little extra in your paycheck next month.” P.I.s will tell little-white-lies to get results.
“If you have either the authority to A: give me a raise or B: put Pentateuch out of business, I will be impressed,” he cannot resist the chance to deal a setback to his longtime notable nemesis. “I’ve got a few days left before I have to get back to work.”
“Can you read any ancient languages?”
“Among other modern tongues, Latin – Hebrew – Greek – Aramaic…”
“Yeah, the last one… wait ‘til you see what fell into our laps on OUR spring vacation.”
“That is the dominant language of 1st Century A.D. you know, Jesus-speak, but not too common these days.”
He will soon be reaching back into history to help reconstitute a divine formula for demonic eradication.
Constance Caraway P.I. ~ Episode 208
…“Marty, how’ve ya been man?” Ace likes Martin’s spunk, pretty cool for an egghead…
Without intentionally searching for it, Willard knows what it’s like to be a part of revival.
“Ever since that 3rd crusade event – what is that, a month and a half ago, I haven’t had so much as a hair out of place. The first two nights, however, I could feel something tugging at me or someone hovering around me, lurking.” Willard Libby knows full well that he has been the focus of a battle much bigger than him alone.
“Now you know what we’ve been dealing with all this time, with all the bad people, evil spirits and the devil himself doing more than nagging at us. On the other hand, we can sense that God is on our side, angelic intervention, if you will miraculous events and recoveries and now we get an instruction booklet on how to beat Satan at his own game.” This is one pumped Private Eye. “It is so significant that Billy buses have made a right turn from Iowa and they are headed back for an outside meeting at Kominski Field.”
“It cannot be both Constance, it is either Comiskey Park or Wrigley Field.” Martin Kamen is the resident baseball fan in and provides the proper stadia clarification.
“Marty, how’ve ya been man?” Ace likes Martin’s spunk, pretty cool for an egghead.
“With you guys out of town, it has been a breeze; no fires, kidnappings, hospitalizations, ice storms, or power blackouts.” He looks around and ducks his head, highlighting the possible dangers expected with their return.
“Can Billy count on your part of the live presentation on April 28th and maybe 29th too?” Connie asks.
“I have been talking to some other colleagues lately and I bet I could get them to join in, for a display of universal support,” Martin has bought in.
“You have a week and a half to work on that. Ace and I are going to have posters printed up. I called Eddie D and he said he would put them up around town.”
It is time to get busy.
…We are going back to Chicago and finish what old Satan has started…
Connie and Ace are able to leave a message (about the Holy Scroll) (by Carrier Pigeon-Word of Mouth-Rumor) for Graham to wait  a bit before boarding the American Queen paddle wheel riverboat; so he is waiting, very curious as to what the fuss is about. He should trust Constance’s expressions of urgency by now.
When he gets his hands on their special delivery and briefly looking it over, he drops directly to his knees, raising both hands skyward, speechless.
“A local Wisconsin historian hinted that this was probably of divine origin,” relates Constance, “and you would not believe where we found it. Is it possible that it was intentionally placed in our path?”
Nothing should surprise her anymore. Graham certainly is not.
“Nothing is impossible for God and I truly believe that He has had His hand on you all through this entire year. This is a direct message from the Lord,” Billy concludes after consulting his on-staff Biblical scholar, “and we cannot ignore it.We are going back to Chicago and finish what old Satan has started.
“Written by hand on Holy paper, with Holy ink, wholly Holy; what a way for the Lord to communicate with us. I was fully expecting an angelic visit or God’s strong voice telling me what to do.
“There is Revival spirit spreading throughout this land and we must put on the show of our lives!” Graham has never been more convinced.
Comiskey Park Card“It is warm enough for an outdoor event, Billy,” Samuel Goldwyn is in on the meeting and still with the Crusade, even into mid-April. His keen business sense has proven invaluable. “I took the time to check with the Chicago White Sox and they are in Detroit on Saturday April 28th; why don’t we do a Comiskey Park blowout meeting?”
Goldwyn Jr. has dedicated himself to see the Crusades through and until they go back to California. He has also become the venue guru for Graham, freeing the good young Reverend to tailor his messages to each new audience.
“We will race back to see how things are shaking in Chi Town,” Race rhymes with Ace.
Constance rhymes with constant, “Let’s get back in one piece.”
