How Did Beer

Change the World?

Beer Video Below

Hybrid cars, computers, those terrible smartphone games everyone’s hooked on: humanity has come a long way since our cave-dwelling, hunting-and-gathering, Quasimodo-looking forefathers. But why? What drove all of these fantastic exhibitions of human achievement?

But first please indulge me.

I have featured beer in other articles over the years:

This would suggest that I am a consumer of said product. To support my claim of partaking in this addictive amber alcohol bubbly beverage, I spent the first 40 years of my life in Wisconsin. That should be ample proof in itself.

Whether it is because of the brutal winters or the proximity to hops & Barley or the immigration of German brew masters to Milwaukee, WI is a beer hotbed.

True Confessions

If I could reach back into time and speak sound advice to a younger meI would recommend abstaining from acquiring a taste for it.

But the ability to change the past is currently unknown or unavailable to us here in 2017 and the horses are already out of the barn.

The key to drinking is not to get drunk. Moderation is a highly underrated state-of-mind.

  1. Sip – don’t Guzzle
  2. Savor the Flavor
  3. Consider the Consequences

This did not start out to be an advice column. Please feel free to chime in & direct your comments to Gwendolyn Hoff c/o Writing Is Fun-damental (the blog you are reading). Perhaps I have missed my calling.

Or perhaps I have changed the course of someone’s life somewhere out there. “Dear younger you.”

THE RETURN TRIP – Episode 123

… “Please take good care of Francine. She will take a day or so to get her bearings…

Goodbyes by Victor de Melo

Roy’s connection goes dead again… but this time Braden King does not respond.

There is no use in shaking, tapping, raising or lowering his device to get it to work. When something is sent, it will come through.

“Let me out at the service entrance Roger, I can catch a baggage hauler from here.” Roy’s endorphins are spiking in anticipation of getting a handle on things. “Please take good care of Francine. She will take a day or so to get her bearings and then she will be itching to hop a flight home.”

GODSPEED! TYPOGRAPHICAL POSTER MADE WITH BICYCLE PARTS By Paul Caridad

Roy reaches for his money clip and gives a good half of it to his new friend. “Francine has whatever is left of our $J and I told her to give it to you  before she takes off for home and don’t you argue about it, ‘cause we will be back and we will have need of your services. Maybe you could buy a car from this century.”

“God’s speed Roy Crippen; it has been my privilege to meet such fine people as you and Miss Bouchette; 2030 is going to be a good year.”

“Where is my family?” A bandaged head, a throbbing arm, and punctured lung do not stop Aldona Afridi from asking the perfectly reasonable question, once he regains consciousness from out of his 5 hour surgery.

“They are out in the waiting room Mr. Afridi,” the recovery room nurse at Elgin AFB Hospital, Okaloosa Florida, “but there is an official from the United States government who has priority access to this area.”

A man dressed in black, who has actually been with Afridi the entire time, even as he was stretchered off the plane, steps into his woozy sightline.

“I am here to record your formal statement. This is an attempt to gather information about an enemy combatant and all information is for the expressed use of the United States of America,” he holds out a handheld device and nods his head indicating a starting point. “In opening, my only question for you is, did you recognize the man who shot you?”

Constance Caraway P.I.-001

Forever Mastadon ~ Episode 24

…“This place is a mess, Martin, how does this guy know where anything is…

“This whole case is leaving an international aftertaste in my mouth.” Constance is concerned.

“Okay already, I get your point. It’s not like I’m going to plagiarize his work. I will break into his office, without a key or permission and we’ll see what we can find. It’s at the end of the hall.”

Martin – Constance – Fanny

One, two, three they hustle down the polished granite floors of the Humanities Building, prepared to find a way to the other side of the door labeled:

WILLARD LIBBY

Physical Chemistry

Breaking-Doors

“Stand back!” Tailing behind, the slightly built Martin Kamen wields a crowbar he stopped to pick up in a maintenance closet.

“Martin, you don’t need to………..”

But he does anyway, putting every ounce of his 160 pounds, but the oaken door swings in to the left without resistance. Kamen finds himself face down on the floor.

“…….do that!” giggles Fanny. “Constance picked the lock,”

“Apparently.” He dusts himself off, having bruised his ego, not his body.

“This place is a mess, Martin. How does this guy know where anything is?”

“Willard is a neat freak. I would say that someone has been looking for something. I was here on the 18th and it was as neat as a pin.” Martin had been in here many times, but he had never used a discerning eye when looking about.

“Let me guess, there won’t be any record of who had the opportunity to do this?” Constance surmises that universities are trusting by nature, “That would be too easy.”

“We have an excellent campus police force, I’ll have them come and check this out.”

“What am I, Swiss cheese? I’ll take it from here and I’ll let you know when you can call in those cardboard cutouts for cops.” She is not impressed with any of the security she has seen, whether here or at that supposedly “top secret” national lab out in nowheresville. “Fanny, I see that you are dusting for prints, keep your eyes peeled for any mistakes made by the creeps who did this.”
