Alpha Omega M.D. – Episode #4

… gone are the carefree days in Tallahassee…

Doctor Alpha Omega Campbell is by no way or definition, an imposing man. Accounting for 66 inches of vertical space, balding to a tee, of mixed race to the visual exclusion of all the others, other than Negro, he is warmed by God’s spirit and in no form or manner a threat to anyone except himself. And yet, here he is in prison at Starke, Florida, closer to Gainesville than Tallahassee; seemingly nearer to hell than the Lord of grace.

If this diminutive groundbreaker could see beyond the bars of incarceration, the world of 1958, one that is lesser for his absence, is a tranquil void, in an otherwise mischievous globe. Rampant unemployment fuels postwar inflation. Nikita Kruschev and Charles de join Dwight Eisenhower, generals all, are world leaders. The Cold War is on.

The United States first satellite orbits the earth, high above the tensions of state or of race, perhaps to relay news of school integration in Little Rock, Arkansas; good news for those in the minority, but not as bad as it should be for those who hide behind white-hooded garments, disguising any real trace of humanity.

Of greater relevance, gone are the carefree days in Tallahassee. On a slow summer’s day, devoid of virus and trauma, a chauffeur driven Cadillac sedan could be taking the Campbell family ensemble to watch tennis lessons, given to the youngest daughter, Zillah, who is preceded by Laura Bell and Alpha (Omega). They too have been tutored by Florida A&M’s coach in a sport not known to many Negroes.

Even more radical perhaps, are the cook and the gardener and the maids, in a grand house that is and was the envy of most folks in the Florida panhandle. It is that very jealousy, of means and possession that have precipitated the doctor’s downfall.

The fact that his dark skin has the hidden hue of a blue blood, will bar his efforts to be with his family this year.

THE RETURN TRIP – Episode 131

…”The Koreans have been searching for a way to devastate the world  and we in Talibanistan were their unknowing partners; at least me, the biggest fool,”

“We want to go back with you Roy!”

“Francine will be picking you up and get you back to the ranch.”

“What about Braden and where are you going?”

“Miss Bouchette will take care of everything, you know, take you to visit Braden and stuff,” Roy reassures. “As for me, I have to see someone else in a hospital, over at Lovell. He has some information I need to hear and it can’t wait.”

— And he does divert to LSC, specifically Elgin AFB Hospital where Aldona Afridi is recovering from his attack. He is polishing his variety of schemes to rectify a wrong, having got the word about Roy’s imminent arrival. He is busy constructing a diagram of a laser dampening field, similar but different from the energy absorption field that the McKinneys did not have time to activate, remotely and pre-disaster.

He is finished, loaded with instructions and general information by the time Roy makes his grand entrance.

“Have you had enough action for a while, I know I have?” He shakes his ally/acquaintance’s hand and sits down to listen closely. “I have spoken with Lt. Gilbert and she gave me an abridged version of your de-briefing. Do you really think that this was the Sang-Ashi plan from the start?”

“The Koreans have been searching for a way to devastate the world ever since they conquered their southern neighbors and we in Talibanistan were their unknowing partners; at least me, the biggest fool.”

Jealousy is a cancerous emotion that spreads wildly among the evil.

“I have fashioned a schematic for you to forward to the crew of the New Mayflower, if it’s not too late.

Alpha Omega M.D. – Episode #265

…He still don’t deserve what he’s got, his damned wife inherited all that land from that Ferrell wack-o…

Hate-001

“You are not going to loan money to that quack Campbell!” demands Charles Wilson, a board member of Lewis Maggie Lou-001State Bank, of George Lewis. “Tallahassee don’t need no hospital for niggers!”

George Lewis has been approached by Doctor Campbell, with ambitious plans for a two-story structure to be built next to the doctor’s home on Virginia Street. It is hard for Lewis to deny anything that has to do with Maggie Campbell, considering that he is the father of her second daughter, Laura. But no one else knows this, especially his contemporaries in the Tallahassee business community.

Red light-001   “He will find a way to build it, whether it’s my bank or not. The man has connections, Charlie.”

“You mean our spineless Governor? We haven’t had a two-termer in Florida, yet. Holland won’t be the first, I’ll see to that.”

“What have you against Holland? Didn’t he help you buy some state land a while back?”

“He’ll regret makin’ friends with Negroes.” Wilson is adamant. “That quack doctor is one of ‘em.”

“I would give it up, if I were you, Charlie. He didn’t do anything to your sister. She was five bricks short of a chimney before she took sick.” George Lewis is doing his best to talk some sense into his friend.

“He still don’t deserve what he’s got. His damned wife inherited all that land from that Ferrell wack-o… nothing to do with him. He ain’t done shit.”

“If that were the case, wouldn’t James Ferrell feel the same way you do, maybe worse? It was his inheritance that Maggie Lou Campbell got. Instead, he is the doctor’s greatest ally.”

Please do not use facts to confuse a polluted mind. “Fine. I can hold him off for a while, but my rejecting his loan application is losing steam with each passing year. Right now I can say they don’t have enough cash for a down payment, but all they would have to do is sell some property to solve that.”

“You better have McLoud make sure they don’t get any smart ideas.”
